Exploring the Landscape: The mysterious Stones of Callanish, raised some 4,000 years ago on the Island of Lewis, are aligned like a Celtic Cross, north to south and east to west, around a central circle. The remains of the Cairn lie inside the circle. Perhaps this was a burial place or a centre of religious worship. Who raised the Stones and why, remains a mystery.
